NEW YEAR NEW ME (or new Kitchen, new Bathroom)

New Year’s resolutions aren’t just for hitting the gym, reducing screen time, or cutting out alcohol….I find a lot of Clients are energized in the beginning of the year to tackle areas of their home that truly have not been serving them well.

I’d love to use this month’s blog to highlight these dramatic transformations and invite you to vote for us in LUXE Interiors + Design’s RED Readers’ Choice Awards! (direct links to voting below)

Read below for some Before & After’s of each area….

When we got our hands on this River North Condo Kitchen, she was living her best early 2000’s aesthetic life. Maple cabinets + black granite are the interiors equivalent of gaucho pants and layered polo shirts (IYKYK)

With the Kitchen being front and center in this very open concept space, we wanted to make sure it wasn’t trying to do the most. Opting for a warm, neutral, matte cabinet, all integrated paneled appliances, and a beautiful quartzite stone – this Kitchen became the epitome of Subtle Luxury.

Drab to Fab:

Designers, you know when you have a client where you tell them a bold idea, or show them a wild patterned wallpaper and instead of them shrinking away – they respond with a confident ‘YES!’… this is that client.

It was clear from the initial intake call that this client was not only willing to take some ‘design risks’ – but it was a requirement. Their bathroom was your classic ‘renovated-in-the-olive-garden-era’ with lots of warm browns, terracotta slate tiles, and again – our favorite black granite countertops!

Our bold design moves were mainly in the materials selections – this is a loft building without much flexibility to revise the layout. We enveloped the shower and half-height around the room in an emerald ‘kit-kat’ tile, and installed a dramatic dreamlike vinyl wallpaper above by Jennifer Shorto. Leaning into a mid-century vibe with the walnut and caned vanity and brass plumbing fixtures was the right move. And converting the dated undermount bathtub to a more modern freestanding tub created a little bit of lightness in the room. This space truly went from drab to FAB and we hope you love it!

Trad is Rad:

I’m not sure what decade decided that mirrored walls in a bathroom was THE DESIGN MOVE, but I am so glad we aren’t in it currently! Because wow.

This Guest Bathroom also serves as our Client’s Powder Room when she’s entertaining, and we wanted the space to fit stylistically with the period of her home, while also bringing some whimsy and color into the mix. As a woman who’s lived a life very well traveled, we took color palette inspiration from a beautiful silk scarf she purchased on a recent trip to China. We framed it locally in a gold-leaf with blue clay base to tie it all together.

Mixing together classic forms in terms of tile trimmings from Ann Sacks (but in a beautiful custom blue), and the ever-popular Henry plumbing line from Waterworks, this bathroom is already equal parts luxe and playful – Proving that TRAD can indeed be RAD!
