Lake Forest Playroom

Lake Forest, IL

"A Place for Everything"

Trying to keep a child's toys organized is a constant struggle for any parent or caregiver. For those lucky enough to have a designated Playroom, you definitely want to make sure you are utilizing every square inch of that precious space. Our client is a young family in Lake Forest, Illinois who have a two year old daughter and a baby on the way. Their Playroom is located above their garage and features three Dormer Window Nooks - which makes for a cool, unique space....but also created some inefficiencies in how they were utilizing their square footage.
We decided the best way to design this room was to create specific purposes for each Nook. One Nook was designated as "The Reading Nook". We lined the wall with shallow, acrylic ledges to store and display the children's books. Adding a comfy bean bag and some floor cushions provides a cozy spot to curl up for story time. The second Nook became "The Dress-up Nook". What child (and some adults) doesn't love putting on a costume and pretending they are Minnie Mouse, or a Chef, or an Astronaut (or all of the above)? Colorful peg hooks on the wall provide an easy storage solution and allows the child to be more involved in keeping their space tidy. A decorative sparkly cardboard chandelier hanging from the ceiling is thrown in for good measure. The third Nook has been coined "The Garage" and is incredibly important to the organization of the space. Having a Nook solely devoted to the storage of toys, bins, puzzles etc has been instrumental in keeping the main space clear for playing, creating art masterpieces, and drawing on the chalkboard wall.

What Our Client Says

Laura and her team worked with us to design a playroom that our children could grow into as well as enjoy right now. We had a very difficult space to work with and Laura used her amazing eye and creativity to make it the perfect space for them. Our daughter is so proud of her playroom and loves having friends over to show it off. We couldn’t have imagined it turning out so amazing and my husband and I agree it was a great investment for the kids!
